Ping Trace’s music has been described as pop elegia with a dreamy but uplifting vibe. The collaboration between Steven Cleveland and Lynnae Rome is continually evolving. The duo is currently immersed in creating moody synthpop tracks stamped with their signature lush and airy sonic quality. The first in this new effort is the dusky and melodic “Up is Down”. The single is slated for release in 2017 on their own indie label, Courtside Records.
Ping Trace released their first EP in 2008, receiving airplay on the nationally syndicated radio program Echoes with John Diliberto. Following their debut, Steven and Lynnae partnered with Jeremy Golden to release a number of EPs on his boutique label, Terraform Records, as well as remixes and singles for Black Hole Recordings’ Magik Musik (The Netherlands), Flame Records (Spain), and Rhythm & Culture (D.C).
The project began as Steven’s solo undertaking. He had been programming electronic music since the 1990s in an early DAW, Cakewalk, where there was a maximum of 4 tracks, and his computer had a paltry 8MB of RAM. By 2007, he had broken away from producing for several years, and the technology had advanced tremendously. With new digital production tools available, he dove in again and found that his passion for musical expression was equally strong.
